Riverwood Properties needed a modernised commercial real-estate website and a map-driven property search tool that did not exist off the shelf. The Challenge
Riverwood Properties needed two things: a modernised website and a property search tool that did not exist off the shelf. Their existing WordPress install had grown unwieldy — the theme was a patchwork of customisations on a third-party framework, performance was suffering, and the team had limited ability to manage it. On top of that, they needed a way for prospective buyers to explore listings on an interactive map, filtering by location, size, and a range of property criteria.
No plugin in the WordPress ecosystem does this well for a specialised property inventory. The only real solution was a custom application.
The Approach
Track 1: Site rebuild. I built a custom WordPress theme from the ground up — no third-party framework, no page builder. For performance and security reasons specific to their environment, I migrated the install to ClassicPress, which gave them a leaner codebase and a more predictable update cycle. The new theme was designed for the content team to manage without developer assistance.
Track 2: React/MapBox application. I designed and built a React application that pulls property data and renders listings on a MapBox map with live filtering. Buyers can filter by location, lot size, property type, and other criteria. The application is embedded into the WordPress/ClassicPress site but operates as a self-contained front-end module — fast, responsive, and maintainable independently of the CMS.
